Short Version
Covandonga, a Historical Sanctuary
One of the most visited places of the Spanish region of Asturias is the sanctuary of Covadonga. This sacred
location is hidden in the heart of Picos de Europa. The Virgin of Covadonga, patron of all the asturians, is found
here. Covadonga was also witness to the famous battle between Pelayo, first king of asturians, and the Moors, and where
Pelayo´s statue stands nowadays. This sanctuary is a pilgrimage location and an obligated visit for every tourist in the region.
Covadonga, un Santuario Histórico
Uno de los lugares más visitados de la región española de Asturias, es el santuario de Covadonga. Este lugar sagrado
se encuentra en pleno corazón de Los Picos de Europa. Allí se alberga la Vírgen o patrona de todos los asturianos, la Vírgen
de Covadonga. También destaca en este lugar la estatua del primer rey astur, Pelayo, famoso por haber librado una de las
batallas más importantes contra los Moros en este mismo lugar. Hoy en día en este santuario es lugar de peregrinación y visita
obligada de todo turista a esta región.
